Year 5 Home Learning

  • Continue to complete your learning log homework, and your project on your country from North America!
  • Continue to read as many books as you can- write a recommendation for us to share back at school.
  • Continue to practice your times tables and play lots of board and card games.

Research an artist

Research an artist, find out about their life and their artwork. Then have a go at copying your favourite piece or a section (part) of it. Extra challenge: write a description of the artwork!

Research a Scientist

Research a scientist that you would like to know more about. You can use the internet, books, videos etc. Then create a fact sheet (poster) about them and their work. It should be colourful and informative. You can do it by hand or on the computer.

The fox, the corn and the hen puzzle

  • Once upon a time a farmer went to market and bought a fox, a hen and a sack of corn.
  • The farmer came to a river which needed to be crossed by boat. He could take only one of his purchases - the fox, or the hen, or the sack of corn - in the boat at a time.
  • If left together on the riverbank, the fox would eat the hen, or the hen would eat the corn.

Can you find a way for the farmer to get all of them across the river safely?

(It might help you to draw out the puzzle!)

Do an experiment

Have a look at some of the science experiments on this website. You can either have a go yourself or watch the videos, then draw a diagram or write a paragraph explaining what happened.

Reflect and Record

Draw a picture, write a story, or write a poem for each day of the week. You could use a notepad or sketchbook if you have one, if just on a piece of paper- make sure you keep them all though. Each piece should reflect on something about the day- it could be a bird you saw in the garden, a game you have played, a book you have read, a film you have watched etc.

Design your own fitness routine

Choose a song and create a fitness routine to it. Remember the moves should go with the music.

Follow a fitness video tutorial for kids, like Joe Wicks!
