British Values

Thatcham Park has been so lucky to receive funding by the PTFA for our British Value resources called Picture News, which are shared with the children every week. Each week the children focus on one of the key British Values – Individual liberty, mutual respect, democracy and the Rule of Law. The children enjoy discussing and debating each weekly topical question relating to one of the key British Values. It has been wonderful to see and hear the discussions each class have been having during each topical weekly collective worship.

  • F2 enjoyed thinking about and creating a poster to show how we can look after the world.
  • Years 1 and 2 enjoyed thinking about the key question. Is it the responsibility of the young to protect the planet?
  • Year 3 enjoyed thinking at the Presidential election in America and whether Joe Biden and Kamala Harris would be good candidates.
  • Year 4 enjoyed debating whether it is a good idea to build a tunnel near Stonehenge.
  • In year 5, we discuss and share our views on the events that are going on in the world around us weekly. We use our discussion rules to ensure that we all feel comfortable to share our opinions and how we feel about topics that have been in the news. We have been amazed at how knowledgeable the children are on the relevant news stories happening around the world and we all enjoy having Year 5 these in -depth conversations. It has been nice for the children to have the opportunity to ask questions amongst their peers and talk about it together as a class.
  • Year 6 also enjoyed thinking about and debated whether it is the responsibility of the young to protect the planet.
