Keeping safe online
At Thatcham Park, we help children learn how to use technology safely and responsibly. This is part of living out our vision:
“Encourage one another and build each other up” (1 Thessalonians 5:11).
We want children to feel confident when using the internet and know how to keep themselves and others safe.
Learning to stay safe
Children are taught how to use the internet as part of their learning, always with guidance and supervision.
They learn that:
- not everything online is true, so it is important to check information carefully
- personal information should always be kept private
- online communication should be kind, respectful and responsible
Children are encouraged to think carefully about what they see, say and share online.
Knowing what to do
We teach children simple ways to stay safe online, including:
- telling a trusted adult if something feels wrong or worrying
- understanding that people online may not always be who they say they are
- never arranging to meet anyone online
Children know that they will always be listened to and supported.
Using technology responsibly
Children use school devices to support their learning in a safe and structured way. Internet access is carefully managed, and adults supervise children at all times.
Mobile phones and smart devices are not used during the school day. Where needed, phones are switched off and stored safely.
Children also learn that taking photos or recording others without permission is not allowed and may be unsafe.
Working together
We work closely with parents and carers to ensure children develop safe habits when using technology at home and at school. Together, we help children to use technology in a positive way.
