Early Years at Thatcham Park

A strong start for every child

At Thatcham Park, we recognise the importance of giving children the very best start in life. Rooted in our vision,
“Encourage one another and build each other up” (1 Thessalonians 5:11),
our Early Years provision is designed to nurture, support and develop every child from the very beginning.

We understand that children join us with a wide range of experiences and starting points. By offering a strong and nurturing early start, we ensure that every child is encouraged to grow in confidence, develop key skills and feel ready to learn.

Building strong foundations

Our early years environment is built on secure relationships, consistent routines and a deep understanding of children’s needs. This enables children to feel safe, valued and able to explore the world around them with curiosity and confidence.

We place a strong emphasis on:

  • communication and language
  • personal, social and emotional development
  • early learning through play, talk and exploration

This helps children to become resilient learners, ready for the next stage of their education.

Supporting every family

We know that supporting children early also means supporting families. Our team works closely with parents and carers, building trusting relationships and offering guidance, care and practical support where needed.

Because of our strong early provision, children make clear progress in their readiness for school, enabling them to flourish both socially and academically as they move through the school.

Growing together

Early Years at Thatcham Park is more than preparation for school—it is the start of a journey. Through encouragement, care and strong relationships, we ensure that every child has the opportunity to thrive from the very beginning. Thessalonians 5:11

Aims

We aim to encourage and support young children to:

  • Become confident, independent and  aspirational
  • Form and maintain positive relationships, work collaboratively and become valued members of the community
  • Take responsibility for themselves, each other and their environment
  • Question, challenge and solve problems creatively
  • Know their strengths and become confident to take risks
  • Know that their ideas will be heard and respected, and that they can make a difference
  • Enjoy success and celebrate personal achievements, and take pleasure in the successes and achievements of others

Practice

Our practice is guided by the four principles of the EYFS Framework:

  • A Unique Child
  • Positive Relationships
  • Enabling Environments
  • Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates

Young children learn through seeing, hearing and doing. They are researchers who explore, test their ideas, solve problems and try to make sense of their world.  The intent of our Early Years Foundation Stage – across all 3 settings, Stepping Stones (our setting for 2 year olds), Foundation 1 (nursery for 3 to 4 year olds) and Foundation 2 (Reception) is to ensure that every child is supported and encouraged to enjoy learning, be confident to take risks, ask questions and understand that misunderstandings and uncertainties are part of real learning.

Our EYFS practitioners understand the need to meet the individual needs of all children and plan learning experiences which are challenging but achievable, and which build on children’s interests, strengths and questions.  They also understand that young children need time and space to learn effectively and, therefore, each child is given opportunities to repeat, revisit and reflect on previous experiences. Play underpins the delivery of the EYFS and the children have opportunities to explore and extend development and learning through their own interests both inside and outside.
