Yr 6 Residential

Our residential visit to Abernant Lake Activity Centre offers pupils a memorable opportunity to learn, grow and flourish beyond the classroom. Set within the stunning Welsh landscape between the Brecon Beacons and Cambrian Mountains, the centre provides a safe and supportive environment where pupils can challenge themselves, build resilience and develop independence. During their stay, pupils take part in a wide range of carefully structured outdoor activities, including water-based experiences on the centre’s private lake as well as climbing, team challenges and problem-solving tasks. These experiences are led by trained instructors and are designed to develop confidence, teamwork and leadership skills while enabling pupils to learn how to assess and manage risk in a supportive setting. The residential plays a vital role in helping pupils to strengthen relationships and build a deep sense of belonging. Away from the routines of school, pupils learn to support one another, overcome challenges and celebrate shared successes, living out our vision of encouraging one another and building each other up. Through these experiences, pupils grow in resilience, independence and self-belief, developing skills that support their learning and personal development long after the visit.

Living and learning alongside their peers also provides valuable opportunities for reflection and personal growth. Pupils experience moments of awe and wonder in the natural environment, developing a greater appreciation of the world around them and a growing sense of responsibility towards it. As a result, the residential contributes strongly to pupils’ spiritual development as well as their confidence, wellbeing and readiness for the next stage of their education.
