Safeguarding

At Thatcham Park, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. It reflects our vision:
“Encourage one another and build each other up” (1 Thessalonians 5:11).

We believe that every child should feel safe, valued and supported to flourish. Our Christian values shape a culture where children are listened to, respected and cared for, and where everyone takes responsibility for keeping each other safe.

Keeping children safe

The safety and well-being of every child is our highest priority. We are committed to ensuring that all pupils are protected from harm, including abuse, neglect and exploitation.

All members of our school community—staff, governors, volunteers, parents and pupils—play an important role in creating a safe and secure environment where children can learn and grow with confidence.

A culture of care and vigilance

We actively create a school environment where children feel safe, respected and able to speak openly. We encourage children to share their concerns, knowing that they will be listened to and taken seriously.

Safeguarding is embedded in daily school life, including:

  • the relationships we build
  • the curriculum we teach
  • and the way we respond to concerns

We maintain a strong culture of vigilance so that concerns are identified early and acted upon in the best interests of the child.

Supporting every child

We recognise that some children may face additional challenges or vulnerabilities. Our role is to provide a stable, secure and supportive environment where all children can thrive.

Through our curriculum and pastoral care, we help children:

  • understand how to keep themselves safe
  • recognise when something is wrong
  • know who to talk to and how to get help

We work closely with families and a range of professional agencies to ensure that children receive the right support when it is needed.

Working together

Safeguarding is a shared responsibility. We work in partnership with parents, carers and external agencies to identify concerns, share information appropriately and act quickly to protect children.

Where necessary, we follow established procedures and work with local services to ensure that children and families receive appropriate care and support.

Our safeguarding team

Our safeguarding team is led by our Designated Safeguarding Lead:
Rhiannon Dargan

She is supported by trained Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads, ensuring that there is always someone available to respond to concerns.

If you have any concerns about the safety or well-being of a child, please contact the school immediately.
