Mental Health and Well-being
At Thatcham Park, we place great importance on mental health and wellbeing. This is central to our vision:
“Encourage one another and build each other up” (1 Thessalonians 5:11).
We believe that children learn best when they feel safe, valued and supported. Our approach to wellbeing ensures that every child is encouraged to develop confidence, resilience and a strong sense of belonging.
A caring and supportive environment
We work hard to create a calm, positive and nurturing environment where children feel safe and respected. Children are encouraged to talk about their thoughts and feelings and to know that they will be listened to.
We recognise that mental and physical health are equally important. By prioritising wellbeing, we aim to help every child feel secure, understood and ready to learn.
Supporting children to thrive
We understand that children may face different challenges at different times. Our role is to provide consistent care and support so that children can develop confidence and self-worth.
Through our curriculum and daily interactions, children are helped to:
- understand their emotions
- build positive relationships
- develop resilience
- know how and when to seek help
This supports them not only in school, but in all aspects of life.
Building strong relationships
Positive relationships are at the heart of wellbeing at Thatcham Park. Adults take time to know children as individuals, creating a culture where everyone feels valued and included.
We work closely with parents and carers, recognising that strong partnerships help us to support children more effectively. When needed, we also work with a range of external professionals to ensure families receive the right support.
Early support and ongoing care
We believe that early support makes a difference. When concerns arise, we respond quickly and sensitively, always keeping the best interests of the child at the centre of our decisions.
Our school provides a stable and supportive environment, which can be especially important for children who may be facing difficulties beyond school.
Learning about wellbeing
Wellbeing is woven through our curriculum, including PSHE and everyday learning. Children are taught how to keep themselves safe, manage emotions and build healthy relationships.
They are supported to recognise when something is wrong and to understand who they can talk to, helping them to feel confident in seeking help when needed.
