Infection control and Medical conditions
Supporting Medical Conditions
At Thatcham Park, we are committed to ensuring that every child is supported to thrive. Guided by our vision, “Encourage one another and build each other up” (1 Thessalonians 5:11), we ensure that pupils with medical conditions are fully included, valued and able to take part in all aspects of school life.
Supporting every child to flourish
We recognise that children with medical needs may require additional support to access learning and school experiences. Our aim is to ensure that all pupils can participate safely and confidently in lessons, trips and activities alongside their peers.
We work closely with families, healthcare professionals and staff to ensure that support is carefully planned and regularly reviewed.
Individualised care and support
Where needed, we create Individual Healthcare Plans (IHPs) in partnership with parents and relevant professionals. These plans clearly outline the support a child needs, when it is required and who will provide it, ensuring a consistent and safe approach.
Children are involved in decisions about their care wherever appropriate, helping them to develop independence and confidence over time.
Safe and trained support
Staff receive appropriate training so they can support pupils safely and effectively. There is always someone available to respond to a child’s medical needs, including in emergency situations.
Medication is carefully managed, with clear procedures in place to ensure that it is administered safely and with parental consent where required.
Dignity, care and respect
We understand that some medical needs may involve personal care. In these situations, we act with the utmost sensitivity, ensuring that every child is treated with dignity, respect and privacy at all times.
Our approach promotes independence wherever possible, while ensuring children feel safe, supported and listened to.
Working in partnership
Strong communication with families is key. Parents and carers provide important information about their child’s needs and work alongside the school to ensure the right support is in place.
We aim to build trusting relationships so that concerns can be shared openly and support can be adapted quickly when needed.
