Literacy

  • What is the story behind this object?
  • Who did it belong to?
  • How did they get it?
  • What period of history is it from?
  • Is it special or magical in any way?

 Write a story about this object and the story behind it. Maybe it belonged to Queen Elizabeth I or maybe it’s a magical watch that can transport you to any period of time. It’s completely up to you. Illustrate your story with pictures.

Fitness

Either complete a fitness video, or have a go at creating your own circuits or dance PE lesson.-Remember to include a warm up and cool down.

Maths

Have a look at the sets of four quantities below. Can you rank them in order from smallest to largest?
To help you decide, you may need to find extra information or carry out some experiments.
Can you convince us that your order is right?

Geography

Design your own island:

  • What did it look like?
  • What temperature was it?
  • Who lived on it?
  • Where in the world was it?
  • Is there a story behind it like Atlantis?

Draw and label a picture of your island.

Art

Choose an interesting object from your home and draw it   from observation. You can do a toned pencil sketch or add colour it’s up to you. Make sure you think about the light and shade, and remember to start sketching the shape using your pencil lightly!

 

History

Can you solve the mystery of ‘the lost island of Atlantis’?

  • How have we heard of it?
  • What would it have been like?
    Where would it have been located?
  • Do you think it really existed?
  • Is there any evidence?

Collect together your findings in any way you like: a report, a poster, a booklet!

KQ How have famous Christians dedicated their life to helping others> How does this show their love/commitment to God?

Find out and research a Christian charity like Tear fund or a famous Christians like Mother Teresa or Sir Cliff Richard. How has their faith had influenced their life or actions?

Do you think their life has shown a commitment to God? Explain why or why not?

Descriptive Writing

Choose the one that inspires and describe what you see?  How does it make you feel? Where could it be?


You could start with a word web to get a word bank.
Remember to use interesting vocabulary and language to bring your writing to life! Use a thesaurus to help. You can even add similes/ metaphors/ personification etc.


Then write a short story involving the picture.

It’s a short story so remember to use your words carefully!

It  can be about anything you like- maybe someone gets trapped in the water, or perhaps the water is a character itself talking to the land and sky, maybe it’s a lost world that an explorer finds. It’s completely up to you!

Once you have written your story, you can illustrate it using pictures or diagrams.


We have set you a 2do on purple mash for a programme which will help you plan your story if you like!

Art

Create a piece of art incorporating a river.

It could be a picture of a river, a diagram of the river bed, creatures that live in a river etc.

You could use coloured pencils, paint, collage, mosaic, wax crayons etc.

What the BBC clip ‘What is Christianity’ and any of the other clips.

What different things/activities do Christians do at church through worship to show commitment to God?  Why or how do these things help their faith?

Geography

Choose a river from around the world. It could be the river Kennet, the Thames or even the Amazon. Then find out:

  • How long it is?
  • Where does it start and end?
  • What wildlife lives in and around it?
  • And any interesting facts you can find!

Then pull the information together to produce a fact file. You may want to do this on Purple Mash and share it with us, or upload a photo if you would rather do it by hand!

Science

Can you find out how a river is formed? Why do we have them now? What is their use and purpose? What is the difference between a river, a stream, and a creek? This website has some useful information.

Present your findings however you wish, a booklet, mind map, fact sheet. Upload it to purple mash if you can!

What’s through the key hole?

Create a piece of art inspired by what you can see through a key hole. It can be a realistic picture or it can be an imaginary world. Then write a description of the place.

Remember to use interesting vocabulary and language to bring your writing to life!

Research a period of history that you would like to know more about. You can use the internet, books, there are some videos on this website to inspire you and give you some information.

Present the information however you like using 2Publish tools on Purple Mash and share it with your teacher.

Research an animal of your choice: find out it’s life cycle (how it changes from a baby), what it eats, where it lives, if it has any predators, etc.  Present the information however you choose.

You can watch the animals live from the zoo, at any time of day!

Creative Writing

 Draw a picture, write a story, or write a poem for each day of the week. You could use a notepad or sketchbook if you have one; if not just use a piece of paper- Make sure you keep them all though. Each piece should reflect on something about the day- it could be a bird you saw in the garden, a game you have played, a book you have read, a film you have watched etc

Keep Fit

Choose a song and create a fitness routine to it. Remember the moves should go with the music.

VE week

Design some bunting

Create an isosceles triangle using the measurements below.   Then decorate – start with a union jack design ... then make up some of your own.

How many pennants will you need to decorate your bedroom?  What method did you use to help you work out the total number needed?

KQ What is Commitment?

Find out what Commitment means? What are you committed to?  Is commitment important to you?

Can you write and draw a spider diagram of this you are committed to and why? Eg. Not telling lies, going to football each week?

VE Day

What can you find out about VE Day?  What would like to know more about? You can use the internet, books and there are some websites to give you some information.

Create a presentation of the information:- for example you could make a poster, booklet, timeline, a power point, fact file etc.

Music

Listen to some songs that were around during WWII.  Can you learn the words and put some fitness moves to it, or perhaps change the words and do a performance.

Design a Medal

Soldiers were awarded medals for their service in WWII.  Research the types of medals that were awarded – what were they for?  What did they look like? How many were awarded? What did the ribbons represent?

Then ... have a go at designing your own medal.  Think about the image, ribbon, colours and meaning of your medal.  Could you relate it to current times???

Impact of the War

Children’s lives changed dramatically during WWII.  How has your life changed during this Coronavirus Lockdown?

Draw a picture, write a story, do a diary entry or write a poem about your experiences/feelings. You need to  

reflect on something that has happened - it could be a key worker parent, no school, the NHS clap, not seeing your friends or family, no shopping/eating out etc...

Research an artist

Research an artist, find out about their life and their artwork. Then have a go at copying your favourite piece or a section (part) of it. Extra challenge: write a description of the artwork!

Research a Scientist

Research a scientist that you would like to know more about. You can use the internet, books, videos etc. Then create a fact sheet (poster) about them and their work. It should be colourful and informative. You can do it by hand or on the computer.

The fox, the corn and the hen puzzle

  • Once upon a time a farmer went to market and bought a fox, a hen and a sack of corn.
  • The farmer came to a river which needed to be crossed by boat. He could take only one of his purchases - the fox, or the hen, or the sack of corn - in the boat at a time.
  • If left together on the riverbank, the fox would eat the hen, or the hen would eat the corn.

Can you find a way for the farmer to get all of them across the river safely?

(It might help you to draw out the puzzle!)

Do an experiment

Have a look at some of the science experiments on this website. You can either have a go yourself or watch the videos, then draw a diagram or write a paragraph explaining what happened.
