What does remote learning look like?
Remote learning will closely follow the school curriculum wherever possible and appropriate although coverage may be rearranged in order to make use of available resources and where some topic areas lend themselves better to remote learning.
Thatcham Park will provide an asynchronous model where education is prepared by the teacher and accessed by pupils at a later point. We will make use of pre-recorded teaching through: White Rose; BBC Bitesize; Oak Academy; Read, Write Inc and other providers where their materials best suit our curriculum.
In the event of a full or substantial closure all pupils will be issued with paper packs which can be returned electronically through Purple Mash/Tapestry or to the school directly in the event of no Internet access.
This model has been agreed based on the needs of our community.
How much learning should my child be doing?
The DfE guidance is:
EYFS pupils 1:2 hours daily including structured play opportunities
KS1 pupils: 3 hours daily on average
KS2 pupils: 4 hours daily on average
How will the school maintain contact?
- weekly remote learning letter
- staff will communicate with parents and pupils through the Purple Mash blogs daily
- work uploaded to Purple Mash and Tapestry acknowledged with directed feedback weekly in line with school policy
- weekly phonecalls home unless otherwise agreed
- support via the school office where necessary
- contact through the SENDco and Pastoral team as necessary
How will work be set?
- daily work will be set through Purple Mash as 2do's
- a weekly paper pack will be available for collection from the school - please contact the office if you are isolating and unable to collect
How will you assess my child?
Assessment will be done in the same way that it is done in school by applying our assessment criteria to the work that has been completed.
We will continue to review our approach to this depending on the length of time involved.
Statutory assessment has been suspended for this year.
What if we don't have Internet or device access?
- please contact the school office as there are a number of ways that we can support you with this
Help I'm trying to work from home at the same time!
We know that this is the reality for most of our families which is why we have tried to be as flexible as we can with the way that we set work.
Work can be completed in the order that suits your family at a time that suits you. Teaching staff will be in contact with you to discuss your specific concerns.
