Maths

Look at the White Rose home learning for the week beginning 29.06.2020.  There are 4 videos to watch and the associated worksheets are on our school website.  This week is the second week where the learning is all about place value (tens and ones), which we have covered in school before but it will be good to cover it again.

In a 2 digit number, the first digit represents the tens and the second digit represents the ones.

This is a really important fact when partitioning 2 digit numbers.

Carry on from last week’s Maths practice and pick a number from your 50 grids.  Tell an adult what the number is and then use your homemade Dienes equipment to represent it.  Remember to put the tens first and the ones after.  Try to represent 2 or 3 2 digit numbers each day.

As our theme is Animals this week, we have set a reading comprehension about a man who is lucky enough to work as a vet in a zoo.  Read the text carefully and then answer at least one sheet of the questions.  Try to challenge yourself to answer more than one set of questions!

Look again at the categories of animals on the Powerpoint about animal classification.  Pick one of the groups of animals and write an information page about it.  Remember to include information about what their bodies are like, what they eat, how they have their babies and where they live.

Maths

Look at the White Rose home learning for the week beginning 22.06.2020.  There are 4 videos to watch and the associated worksheets are on our school website.  This week and next week the learning is all about place value (tens and ones), which we have covered in school but it will be good to cover it again.

Carry on practicing counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.  Use your 50 grids from last week’s home learning to support you with this counting.

Think back to the Dienes equipment that we used when we leant about place value in school.  The tens in a 2 digit number are represented by the 10s stick and the ones are represented by the small cubes.  Look at the photo here and then make your own Dienes tens and ones so that you can use this to support you in your home learning.

In a 2 digit number, the first digit represents the tens and the second digit represents the ones.

This is a really important fact when partitioning 2 digit numbers.

Discuss the features of the birds, where they live and what they eat etc.  Use this information to create an information page, either about 1 bird or about the range of birds that live in British gardens.

An acrostic poem is a poem where the subject is written down the side and those letters start each line.  There is a PowerPoint on the website to teach you about this.  Choose a garden bird and write an acrostic poem about it.  If you do this on Purple Mash we will be able to share it onto our Art Week board.

Maths

Look at the White Rose home learning for the week beginning 15.06.2020.  There are 4 videos to watch and associated worksheets.  This week’s White Rose learning is based around multiplication and division, which is new learning – we have not covered this before in school.

Carry on practicing counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.  Use the 50 grid on the website to colour in the numbers that you say when you count in 2s. Do the same on another 50 grid for the numbers you say when you count in 5s and another for the numbers you say when you count in 10s.  Can you spot the number patterns?  What do the different sets of numbers end with?  Keep these coloured in grids to support you during the multiplication and division unit.

Have a look around your house.  How many different things can you find that come in 2s – we call these pairs.  Draw a picture of the objects that you find in pairs and label them.  You could then challenge yourself by doing the same for the objects that you find that come in sets of 5.
